"Becki Newton"

Date of Birth: July 4, 1978
Birth Place: New Haven, Connecticut

Becki Newton Born and raised in Connecticut, Becki Newton’s off-kilter childhood -- she was a brainy, artsy child with very little fashion sense -- ensured that her passion for acting became evident at an exceedingly early age. Becki slowly but surely honed her craft by performing in a variety of local plays and musicals.

Following her graduation from the University of Pennsylvania, where she earned a degree in European history, Becki moved to New York City and began to pursue an acting career in earnest. She got her start on a series of commercials.

Becki was consequently hired to host a celebrity interview show on TBS called Movie Junky, which she parlayed into a short-lived stint on the daily soap The Guiding Light. In 2004, Becki made her cinematic debut with a small but pivotal role opposite Topher Grace and Laura Linney in the drama P.S. She followed that up with a three-episode arc on the popular NBC show American Dreams, and also popped up in episodes of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit with Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloney, and Charmed with Alyssa Milano and Rose McGowan.

Becki’s big break came in 2006, after she successfully auditioned for the role of Amanda Tanen on the ABC dramedy Ugly Betty with costars America Ferrera and Vanessa Williams. The show, which quickly emerged as one of the breakout hits of the ’06-’07 season, transformed Becki into an instant celebrity. And it wasn’t long before the up-and-coming actress found herself being recognized everywhere she went. She was part of the cast of Ugly Betty until 2010.

Becki is also featured in the drama August Rush (2007) alongside Keri Russell, Robin Williams and Terrence Howard.

In late 2011, Becki Newton began appearing on How I Met Your Mother on CBS. In early 2012, the network announced that it was going forward with a new pilot with Newton signed on as the star.
